A carefully calibrated design intent organises scale, movement, and sightlines across this large-format, climatically designed Delhi villa. Aparna Kaushik Design Group plans this residence, aligning built volumes with landscaped grounds and clear visual axes. The design draws from the clients’ interest in French architectural precedents, translating their preference for symmetry and proportion into the villa’s planning and form. Neo-classical principles inform the composition, with a focus on balance, order, and measured detailing.
The façade uses fluted Corinthian pilasters and horizontal entablatures to break down the building’s scale and establish rhythm across elevations. A mansard roof caps the structure, reinforcing its vertical proportion while maintaining balance within the overall mass.
The same discipline guides the interiors. Spaces follow a defined sequence, where movement unfolds through aligned views and connected rooms. Ornament is used selectively, scaled to the size of each space. Formal areas introduce wainscoting, wallpaper, and accent tones to define hierarchy, while private spaces remain quieter, relying on proportion and material consistency. The programme extends to walk-in wardrobes and dedicated leisure spaces, including private spa and salon, integrated within the overall planning.
Material choices remain controlled. Marble flooring, wood panelling layered finishes create a consistent base, with variation introduced through contrast and placement. Furniture and décor are positioned in response to room size, ensuring that elements sit comfortably within each volume. Artisanal elements, including hand-crafted glass fixtures and metal detailing, introduce controlled moments of refinement.
Large openings extend internal axes towards the landscape, connecting rooms with lawns and peripheral spaces. A structured approach sequence, including a stone-paved driveway, reinforces this alignment from arrival. The bar and lounge introduce a shift through stronger contrasts in material and colour, while remaining aligned with the overall order. Pergolas and cabanas form shaded thresholds, mediating between interior and exterior. A swimming pool and cabana extend the outdoor programme while maintaining visual links to the interior.
Climatic considerations shape both planning and envelope. Orientation, shaded semi-open spaces, and thermal mass respond to Delhi’s seasonal extremes. Deep-set openings and layered thresholds control light and heat, supporting comfortable interior conditions throughout the year.
The design maintains visual alignment between built form and landscape, allowing movement and proportion to guide the overall experience of the villa.
